This is the sz 14 women skirt I picked up cheap to make Emilee's white school skirt from. I measured down each side taking off 2.5 inches. I sewed this line had her try it on and then cut the sides off. She could have worn it just like it was, but I had something else in mind when I bought the skirt and I had thought it would be too long. It wasn't, but I decided to go with my original plan anyway. Emilee had her doubts, she knew she would hate it. So positive and uplifting. So, I cut off the bottom of the skirt just below the pocket bottoms.
the skirt had shorts under it that I had cut out, we realized it needed to be lined because it was see thru. so I cut the inseam parts off and sewed up the sides again and laid the skirt on top to see if the shorts would fit under as a skirt lining. It fit pretty well so I sewed the lining to the waist of the skirt using the original shorts hem saving some time.
this is the inside of the skirt with the lining pinned to the waist. I had gotten some white knit and some white organza not really knowing for sure how the ruffle would be done. I ended up just using the knit and saving the organza for some flower pins we want to try making later.
I added a 5" ruffle to the bottom and added some pink rickrack around the seam. It fits perfect, she loves it, and it's done! I was wondering about halfway through the ruffle making part if $36 was really too much to pay for a white skirt. Now that it's done, I'm glad I only paid about $5 for this one! I wanted to get a little more elaborate with the rickrack and make a design around the front of the skirt on one side, but Emilee said I had done enough already and it was so cute juts as it was. Now that's positive and uplifting!
