This is Sweety. I call her Tail, because she has one. I can't remember which cat is named what between her and her sister Prescious, who has half a tail. I call her No-tail. I can't ever remember which name goes with which cat so that's what I call them. Claire went to check on our second batch of kittens, who's mom is Lily, pictured below and saw Tail walking toward her with a baby coming out. She sat down in the doorway of the barn and had her first kitten. Claire yelled at me "Mom, Sweety is having her kittens and she doesn't know what she is doing!" She was so right about that. She had her second one right there as well. We got a box and Jon scooped her up and we moved her out of the doorway when it looked like she was done. She had 2 orange babies. We were so excited because we don't have any all orange cats. The girls went to check on them in the morning and found out she was NOT done and had 2 more kittens. One orange and one tiger striped.
She prefers not to touch them. If we got out to the barn she jumps out of the box and won't go back in after she eats and drinks. Lily is with her kittens almost 24 hrs a day, so we're pretty sure Tail needs to be spending a lot of time with her babies. We put her back in the box and wait for her to relax enough to lay down and feed them, then she will stay in the box. Poor thing. I love those little tails.
This is Lily. She had 4 kittens also a couple days before tail did. This white one is huge and a bully and whiny. She disrupts the whole lots with her constant digging around. The runt is black with a white face. He gradually turns gray towards his tail which is striped. Jude has named him Super Fast. The one laying on her mom is emilee's. She is Diamond and has orange on her face. Fat-so is Claire's and is named Pearl, but will be called Fatty by me. We had a fatty like this last yr, also Claire's that she named Crystal. Crystal became lunch for something about 8 weeks old. Claire was devastated. We never did find her, she just disappeared. This year I keep saying this mantra to the kids, "Do not love these kittens. They are all going to die." This is a good mantra. Not one of the kittens born here last year is alive now. Brownie, our sweet baby and Lucky were both hit this spring. The last kitten is named Aqua and she is the most non-discript kitten of the bunch, so of course she is mine.
Another story, since I know you love mine so much. Chloe who was sweet Brownie's mom, choose to have her kittens at the neighbors somewhere. Last year her mom kidnapped her kittens and they raised them together. Guess she wanted to make sure that didn't happen again. Anyway, we were waiting until Lily had her kittens before we seriously searched the crabby neighbors yard for the babies. Unfortunately we were a day late. Chloe came home injured that day and hasn't left again. We have to assume her babies are dead or she would go back. She came home once a day to eat and drink and always went back. Poor thing. She lays around a lot resting and seems so sad. There are no cuts or scrapes, she limps and walked weird. I don't know what could have happened. If she has more kittens we hope she has them in the relative safety of our barn.
We have one more expectant cat. No-tail. She is not as large as her sister, so we think she has a few weeks to go. Hopefully she has a better attitude than her sister about being a mom!
