after we lost power, it was warm enough to melt the ice on the roof so we started catching water and hauling it inside. we had 4 tubs full on the porch. this was like gold for flushing toilets and watering the animals. I am so glad we did this because 6 people using the bathroom for 2 days would have been overwhelming.
david chopped wood for the corn furnace and emilee hauled it in. thank God we had this wood or we would have froze .it wasn't ideal, but it did keep the pipes from freezing. we just stayed in the basement the 2nd day because upstairs was too cold.
